This devotion is based off of the passage found in Luke 8:1-15. In this parable, Jesus talks about a farmer who goes out to sow his seed. As the farmer is scattering them, four different categories form:
After Jesus finished telling the parable, the disciples asked Him to explain its meaning. This is what He explained:
If you really think about it, a plant isn’t always living an easy life (in one sense). Sometimes, it may not have enough water or sunlight, while other times it might have to survive a windy storm.
When Jesus explains this parable to His disciples, He mentions that those who are planted in the good soil have to persevere to produce a crop, because growing takes time. You can’t just put a seed in the ground and expect it to grow overnight. Our faith can be compared to a seed. We can’t just grow stronger in our faith instantly. We must “feed ourselves” spiritually by reading God’s Word, “water ourselves” by praying—both in the good and bad times, and when we persevere through a few storms (aka trials and tribulations), we come out of the battle stronger than ever! We also must be rooted in Christ. Otherwise, we will fall away from our faith during hard times. For example, a plant that has grown no roots in the soil will eventually die or be picked up by the wind. That is why it’s important that we choose to strive to grow deeper roots in our relationship with God. This will allow us to be able to withstand more difficult storms in the faith and not be shaken. So what are you waiting for? Go plant yourself in God’s love. He is the Farmer and He is ready to help that little seed of faith in your heart grow.
