When God finished creating the earth, He commanded Adam and Eve not to eat from the fruit of the tree of The Knowledge of Good and Evil. But when Adam and Eve chose to disobey Him and ate from the fruit, they become separated from God.
Jesus came into the world to restore that separation. His mission was to make a way for us to live with Him in Heaven eternally, and that is exactly what He accomplished.
Of course, as most of us know, God's plan for Jesus was definitely not as easy as 1-2-3. The Lord had to go through so much! In summary, He was mocked, spat upon, flogged (which means "whipped"), pierced, and eventually crucified. Although Jesus was an innocent Man, He was treated like a criminal.
Jesus did not deserve to die, but He chose to die because He loves you. He could bear the physical pain of death, but He could not bear the emotional pain of eternal life without you, His beloved child.
Jesus died once, and for all people. Through His death, we are no longer slaves to sin. Instead, we have been forgiven and set free!
"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." -John 3:16
"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." -Romans 5:8
"This is how God showed His love among us: He sent His one and only Son into the world that we might live through Him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins." -1 John 4:9-10
"The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God. In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus." -Romans 6:10-11
